8 Positive Done For You Journal Prompts

Journaling is powerful, and it's a proven tool to reduce stress, anxiety, and depression. Here's 8 prompts to help get you started.

You know what it's like to feel stuck like you're navigating life on autopilot. You're tired of feeling grumpy and ungrateful, and it seems as if nothing goes your way. But then it happens; you open your laptop or sit down with a pen in hand, and all of a sudden, thoughts begin to flow freely onto the page. You start writing them down one after another and you feel the weight being lifted off of your shoulders.

Journaling is powerful, and it's a proven tool to reduce stress, anxiety, and depression.

I started my journey with positive journaling prompts and had no idea that it would trigger such a huge transformation within me, but I knew that something had to change and I was the one who had to make it happen. That being said, I'm going to share 8 of the most powerful positive journaling prompts that I use to ground myself and remain grateful!

The one positive thing you must remember about yourself today is

  • Write down the positive thing you are grateful for.
  • Write down the positive thing you love about yourself.
  • Write down the positive thing that makes your life so incredibly wonderful.

Include why this is a good thing, and how it changes your life in a positive way.

(Example: "I have nice hair" leads to "I have nice hair because I get compliments on it regularly".)

If applicable, write down three things that make you happy (or one big thing) each day and keep track of them in your journal over time to see how many days in a row they've been happening!

Today I give myself permission to

  • Write down what makes your life so incredibly wonderful. (The people in it, perhaps? The things that happen to you?)
  • Write down what you love doing most in this world. (It could be anything from eating pizza to watching movies or, reading books to playing video games.)

Give yourself permission today to do something nice for yourself by writing out those things that make you feel good about who you are and where your life is going right now. Even if all these things seem small at first glance; then celebrate them by doing them!

Today I will stop beating myself up because

  • You are learning.
  • You are working hard.
  • You are doing your best.

Today I am Grateful for: Write it down!

One way to prevent self-doubt from creeping in is to write down what you are thankful for.

You will be surprised at how much writing down things you are grateful for can shift your mindset and make you feel more positive.

List five things that make you happy or remind you of something good that happened. These can be people, places, events - anything! This exercise is also a great way to reflect on positive moments during an otherwise difficult day or week.

List 3 things that you love about yourself today

Be honest with yourself, and don't be afraid to write down the things that you might be embarrassed about.

The point of this exercise is to be happy with who you are right now, so you can embrace those things and look back to reflect.

After you have finished writing down all the things that make up your current self-identity, (and hopefully it's a long list), spend 15 minutes going over them again in a positive light before bed. This will help cement their importance and boost your self-esteem.

What would your best friend say about you?

  • Write down a list of all the positive qualities your friends would say about you.
  • What qualities make a good friend?
  • Think back to when you were in high school. Do any classes stand out as being particularly helpful with developing friendships, or making friends easier?

List 3 things that make your life wonderful

  • This could be as simple as 'my eyesight' or 'my sense of taste'.
  • List 5 things that you love about yourself.
  • List 5 things that make you feel good about your life, even if they're small.
  • What are some of the more significant accomplishments in your life? What makes them so special and meaningful to you?

List 5 things that you love doing.

Now do one of them today. It could be as simple as drinking a glass of water outside looking at the sky, listening to your favourite song, or taking 15 minutes for a walk around the block without your smartphone.

Whatever makes you happy, find space in your day to do it!
